Here's something we see pretty regularly out in the field - an outdoor A/C unit completely swallowed up by overgrown bushes. It looks harmless enough, but it's actually one of the sneakier reasons a system starts struggling to cool your home properly.

Your outdoor condenser unit works by pulling in outside air, running it over the coils, and releasing heat. When shrubs and overgrowth crowd in on all sides, that airflow gets choked off. The system has to work harder to do the same job, which puts extra strain on the components and can drive up your energy costs without you even realizing it.

The fix is often simpler than people expect. Trimming back the vegetation around your unit so it has adequate clearance on all sides can make a real difference in how efficiently the system runs. It's one of those small maintenance steps that tends to get overlooked - but it matters, especially when temperatures climb.

We always check the area around the outdoor unit when we're out on an A/C maintenance call. It's part of giving the system a fair shot at running the way it's supposed to. If your A/C has been struggling to keep up lately, overgrowth might not be the only issue - but it's worth ruling out before assuming something bigger is wrong. Our team handles everything from routine A/C maintenance to full A/C repair and replacement in the American Fork area.
