A lot of homeowners assume that when their AC stops cooling, they're looking at a full replacement. That's not always the case. Sometimes the system just needs a refrigerant recharge - and that's a fraction of the cost of a new unit.

Here's how it usually goes. Your AC is running, the fan is spinning, but the air coming out isn't cold. You push through it for a few days hoping it fixes itself. It doesn't. Utah summers don't exactly give you room to wait on something like that.

When we get out to a call like this, the first thing we do is connect our gauges and check the system's pressures. That tells us pretty quickly whether low refrigerant is the culprit. If it is, we recharge it to the correct level and verify the system is cooling properly before we leave. No guesswork, no upselling you on stuff you don't need.

The key thing to understand is that refrigerant doesn't just "run out" on its own. If a system is low, there's usually a leak somewhere. We check for that too. A recharge without addressing a leak is just a temporary fix - and we're not in the business of temporary fixes.

If your system is struggling to keep up right now, don't sit on it. The longer a low-refrigerant system runs, the harder it works - and that puts extra wear on the compressor, which is the most expensive part to replace.
