A frozen AC is one of those problems that looks strange but actually tells you a lot about what's going on inside the system. When a homeowner in American Fork called us because their unit wasn't keeping up, we showed up and found exactly what we expected - ice. A lot of it.

The evaporator coil was completely packed with ice, and there was a serious buildup at the base of the unit too. This kind of freeze-up usually points to a refrigerant issue, a restricted airflow problem, or both. The system was running, but it wasn't actually doing its job - it couldn't cool properly with that much ice blocking the coil.

Here's the thing most people don't realize: a frozen AC won't just thaw out and fix itself. If you let it keep running in that condition, you risk damaging the compressor - and that's a much more expensive repair. We cleared the ice, diagnosed the root cause, and recharged the refrigerant so the system could actually do what it's supposed to do.

After the recharge, the unit was back to cooling the way it should. That's what proper A/C repair looks like - not just addressing what you can see, but making sure the underlying cause gets handled so it doesn't come right back.

If your system is icing up, blowing warm air, or just struggling to keep the house comfortable, those are signs worth paying attention to. Don't wait until it stops working entirely.
